Marina Shukurova
(b. in 1989, Kazakhstan. Based in Ljubljana, Slovenia)
Marina Shukurova is an artist currently living and working in Ljubljana, Slovenia. She studied photography at the Fotodepartament Institute and Docdocdoc School of contemporary photography (St. Petersburg, Russia). She has defended her master's thesis on the topic of additional education for photographers in the context of contemporary cultural projects at Institute of Art in Saratov State University (Saratov, Russia). Now she is studying photography at Academy of Fine Arts and Design (University of Ljubljana, master degree program).
She works as a commercial photographer for private clients and companies. The area of her interests in own projects lies in the field of studying the nature of photography including the ability to construct space as well as other shooting circumstances making a distinction between reality and what is real, the ability of photography to manipulate the mind and memory, its mysticism, which consists in the ability to change the illusory reality depending on the context. She is searching for new forms of expression and representation within the medium, and is interested in the development of the author's photo book as a phenomenon, the revival of the traditions of photo collage, and entering the sphere of interdisciplinarity.
